Here’s a question I want to throw out to the blog universe.
When you have an appointment are you early, late or right on time? I am my dad’s daughter and so are two of my three children. If I am not wherever I need to be at least 15 minutes before the appointment I start to sweat. This 15-minute buffer usually has more to do with my directionally challenged car, despite Google maps, where hmm.. my car ends up on a dead end street.
My obsession for clocks is similar to my obsession for dutch doors. Except, these time telling objects are found in a wide range of price points and their installation doesn’t require a contractor’s license.
a thing for clocks
I love the backstory of clocks; regardless of its age. I am the reader that leaves comments on popular blogs asking for details on the clock in the background.
The history of the invention of timekeeping mechanisms developed across continents and centuries, with Europe largely being credited with the more traditional measure of time. It’s fun to see a resurgence of the hourglass at a few home stores. Of course, my recollection of the hourglass was from the Day’s of our Lives opening line, ” Like sands through the hourglass, so are the days of our lives.”
Sidenote: I didn’t watch Days because I was more of an All My Children fan when Buffy the Vampire was previously Kendall Hart- Erica Kane’s daughter).
no tick or tock
I don’t think it’s possible to have too many clocks in a home. One of my favorite clocks doesn’t even work. It’s just eye candy; it doesn’t tick or tock.
Like this Pottery Barn clock, I purchased on clearance years ago. Everyone comments on this clock when they walk into our family room. When we installed it above the mantel, we moved the clock’s arms to 2:55 pm because that was our kids’ favorite hour; the much anticipated five minutes before school ended.
These days, it might be more appropriate to move the arms to a few minutes after 5pm. You know what they say, “It’s five 5 pm o’clock somewhere.
After painting the niche above the fireplace, the mantel decor just looked so much nicer. Although it was a challenge to paint the niche, while standing on the mantel’s ledge with a paint brush and paint container, it was totally worth it.
This is another favorite clock located right outside my home office. Because the clock takes up so much space it’s easy to add one or two accessories and be done with it.
I have found great deals on clocks here. And, I have my eye on this one at Target.
Of course, I have seen a resurgence with the classic, old-school hourglass. I saw a similar one at Target. Hmm…. maybe I can expand my concept and measure of time.
Maybe an hourglass will help me arrive on time.
But for now, this is my favorite measure of time… ironic right? Share with me where you find cool clocks, working or non-working.
Total sidenote wasn’t there a creepy, old sci-fi movie with a scene with clocks ticking?
