I am obsessed with ways to recycle, re-purpose or up-cycle everyday items. My obsession (guilt) came from my mother. Don’t most of our issues come from our mothers? Seriously, my mom saved the most random household items for undetermined up-cycle ideas. I thought my mom just needed a day “to organize.”
upcycle spray bottles
My solution was to create a separate bin for potential up-cycle projects. I think I just turned into my mother…..
It kills me to throw away spray bottles when they no longer contain the original contents of a lavender linen spray or mint infused cleaner.
If my children read my blog that last sentence is where they would add, “Mom, you need to get a “real job,” in the comments. Oh wait.. they would text me.
I used to scrawl the word “bleach” on the side of a spray bottle and hoped it wasn’t used on the carpet. But, over time I learned I could teach my family new habits with a label.
For this up-cycle idea I purchased puppy theme 12×12 sheets of paper from Michael’s. I used a roll of clear contact paper to secure the paper to the plastic spray bottle and make the label more durable.
I had enough bottles to create duplicate cleaners for the dog related accidents. With two dogs, the spray bottles got plenty of use.
For the carpet cleaners, I used either a combination of vinegar and water or this stuff. A vinegar based cleaning solution is effective at neutralizing pet odors.
Here is a great article on household staples to clean pet related accidents. The puppy theme labels worked great with my family. There were no excuses for “Which cleaner do I use?” The dog theme labels were self explanatory.
Up-cycle cleaning bottles is an easy way to get more use of spray bottles. I love up-cycle ideas. Do you have a favorite up-cycle item? Please share in the comments.
