Last week the unthinkable happened to me; my blog was hacked. And, right now I am in the blog hack aftermath. I’ve referred to the hack as a hack-a palooza because it sounds like I am keeping it together with my sense of humor. Maybe I can gather a little perspective about my blog’s current social status if I add the word palooza to the end of the words; blog hack.
Blog Hack Details
The cybercrime occurred in the early morning hours, on a Wednesday. The blog hack unfolded right in front of my eyes. With every keystroke and backspace, huge chunks (code) of words and widgets disappeared from the page.
I must have been in shock because, as my husband pointed out, “I was uncharacteristically calm.” I think the surprise of my calmness shocked my husband more than my shock from the blog hack.
I called multiple professionals and cried on the phone with my now former hosting company. All professionals confirmed the news; every sentence, in every post, was lost. Poof! The backups failed and all links and pins lead to an error page.
I lost everything including my files and backup files. I tried to save anything. At one point, I thought I had found a 2015 backup. But, in a matter of seconds, that data table went poof!
As the magnitude of the loss sunk in I immediately turned to the women who, over the years, had built my blog. These women worked over the weekend to get a template and new hosting in place. The reason I was not curled up under my desk was because of these women.
All was not lost in my blog hack. All of my images were saved in my Dropbox account. The photos build the stories. The words and sentences will come together because of the saved images.
And, with those photos, I will rebuild my blog.
Thank you for visiting. Please take a peek around my blog. This blog is just getting started.
