How to Decorate with Engineer Prints

I am so excited to share this idea on how to decorate with engineer prints. I just sound smarter when I use the words engineer prints in a sentence. Like, “Do you have the engineer prints I ordered?” I mean doesn’t that just sounds so much smarter than asking for the black and white copies I ordered online?

Today I want to share the details on how to decorate with engineer prints. And, what I learned after multiple failed attempts to order online.

I wanted to add some inexpensive artwork to my boys’ rooms after recently updating their bedrooms. Engineer prints were a format that matched the industrial, urban theme in their rooms.

I found several options for city and aerial maps at this Etsy shop.  I choose two cities, the city my older son grew up in and the city near where my same son attends his first year of college.

The images cost a few dollars and the seller provided multiple sizes and formats in digital format. I used Staples to create the engineer prints. I checked with the other big box office store, but they either didn’t print engineer prints or they were way more expensive.

So I went back to Staples, via my mouse and keyboard, and attempted to upload my images.

Fail. Error. Try again. What the…??

So here is where I will save you ten minutes of aggravation when you go online to Staples.com. To order engineer prints you must create an account first. As soon as I created an account it took seconds to order. The engineer prints were available in a few sizes. I choose to mail my prints because honestly I was worried they would get trashed in the back of my car (dogs, teenagers, unidentified rolling objects). Many of you get it, right?

Oh and the price per engineer print? Less than $5.00!!

While waiting for the prints to ship I picked out the poster frames at Michael’s. I suggest you decide in advance the size of the prints you want and time the frame purchase with a sale or coupon at Michael’s.

Suggestion: I noticed there were big (enough) price jumps on poster frame sizes, so you might want to decide if you really need a 30″ width frame or if you can get away with a 24″ frame.

As it turned out the nicer frames (wood frame and real glass vs. plastic frame and plexiglass) were on sale so I splurged on an extra frame because I knew I wanted a Denver aerial map in our basement.

I am psyched with how these engineer prints turned out. The entire process was fun and added some much-needed character to a few rooms. And, the best part the prints were inexpensive and the aerial maps were relevant to my kids and to us as a family.

Our hearts are in both cities!
