As we roll into March and the skies give us more light I am always sad for my candles. Sidenote: Let’s pause to add a collective eye roll and group text from my family! Flickering candles on chilly nights is a ritual at our house. But when the temperatures climb the candles tend to idle more than they flicker. And, it killed me to toss these glass jars so I figured out how to upcycle glass candle jars.
These 4″x 3.5″ glass jars are perfect for so many new careers. And, many of you know how I much I love a repurpose project. Just check out my homepage under “Upcycles.”
I found this tutorial on Pinterest and followed the general idea.
That’s kind of how I roll with instructions … or recipes.
How to Upcycle Glass Candle Jars
I gathered up my used Bath & Body candles and a few others I had in the “candle cabinet.” Don’t judge me.
and I stuck all of the used glass candle jars in the freezer overnight.
The following night I pulled the smaller glass jar out of the freezer. I used a kitchen serving knife to pry the wax out of the glass jar. And, just like that large chunks of frozen wax popped out of the jar. I grabbed each glass and a metal jar out of the freezer and repeated this step.
I had a sink of warm soapy water ready for the jars to soak and I used a scrubbing pad to wipe out the remaining wax.
This is one of the coolest candle vessels and obviously it’s not glass. I got it in Minneapolis last fall when we dropped our son off at college. I am so excited to be able to upcycle this into something that reminds me of my son’s first days at college. Tissue, please!
