Pajama Program Charity

Please consider this charity to add to your ornament or gift exchanges.

Every Christmas my daughter and I host a mother-daughter ornament exchange.  We host it the evening following finals.   We began this tradition in my daughter’s freshmen year in high school.  The girls are now college freshman.  Sniff. Sniff.
It has been a joy to see all of our girls grow into fine young women… well until one of them opens the reindeer ornament with a misplaced jingle bell.  Then the room bursts into hysterical laughter.
The other tradition we pair with our ornament exchange is to ask every girl to bring a pair of new, unwrapped pajamas to benefit the Pajama Program.

I heard about this program a few years ago on Oprah.  Here is the mission of the national program:  The purpose of the Pajama Program is to provide new pajamas and new books to children in need, many who are waiting and hoping to be adopted. Thousands of the children we serve live in orphanages, group homes and shelters and are shuffled often between temporary living facilities. Many of them have been abused or abandoned and have never enjoyed the simple comfort of having a mother or father tuck them in at bedtime and read to them. Since 2001 with your help we have provided more than one million pajamas and books to children in need nationwide.
We collected pajamas for girls and boys.

It’s amazing how a $10.00 purchase can make a small difference to a child.  In a season often filled with excess here is a great idea and a reminder that we each have the power to make a difference in the life of a child {or animal or adult}.
Please consider the Pajama Program for your next party.
