Tonight is the Friends reunion for a tribute to the show’s director James Burrows. My daughter and I recently binged watched the Thanksgiving episodes marathon. I can’t bring myself to delete those episodes from my DVR. It’s funny when I watched the original shows I was in love with Chandler and so annoyed by Joey. Re-watching the episodes with my college age daughter laughing at everything Joey says gives me a new appreciation for what Joey (Matt LeBlanc) brought to the Friends show. Hearing my daughter compare Ross to one of her brothers gives me a new perspective. Now when I watch an episode with Monica and Ross I compare their (fictional) sibling relationship to my daughter and youngest son. This is the gift of a well loved series. My {first} husband is not a fan of sitcoms and doesn’t share my enthusiasm for Friends, but when I shared how it brought our daughter and I together for a Friends binge watching session he had to admit it was an unexpected gift.
One of my favorite episodes is the Thanksgiving one with Rachel preparing a traditional English truffle. I shared a snippet of the episode here .
Another favorite episode was the one when Ross attempts to teach his son the traditions of his Jewish faith and a costume mixup leads to the Holiday Armadillo. I can’t do the scene justice so sharing from youtube::
Look at them now! Matthew Perry is absent because of a previous commitment in London. What are your favorite episodes? The tribute to James Burrows airs tonight on NBC!
