I am excited to share this diy gate accessory for the home. This project caught my eye when I saw it on Donna’s popular blog. The gate details were relatively simple for this DIY novice. I loved that this project took the idea of a gate and turned it into an accessory for my home’s interior. I wish I could say my family loved the idea of a gate sitting on a book case, but I will turn them.. eventually.
I purchased the fence boards at Home Depot for less than $15.00. I used my circular saw/table saw to make the cuts on these inexpensive fence boards. Because the fence boards are lightweight a hand saw would work with a little muscle.
I made my gate wider and taller based on the size of the existing framed art I had above the intended bookcase. I assembled the gate on my garage floor to create a visual before I nailed the boards to the cross boards.
The gate hardware was located in the garage door hardware aisle at Home Depot. I used white primer to for the paint (don’t judge).
This gate accessory for the home was so easy and my friends love it. It was an inexpensive accessory that adds height and depth. With a two story ceiling in our living room, this gate adds much needed height to the room. And, the gate keeps the space casual which is what I am all about for my home and lifestyle.
Here’s the spring version:
