~ my go-to 4 ingredient Royal Icing Recipe
One of my goals is to cut out (some of) the preservative filled products in my pantry. And, yes I realize icing is not what I would call an organic recipe. This is a journey.. not a race. This is my go-to favorite 4 ingredient royal icing recipe. It’s easy, can be prepared ahead and the icing dries smooth.
The hardest part of this recipe was finding Meringue Powder. I thought this would be at the grocery store, but our Kroger didn’t carry it (and I am not sure why they don’t carry it given the popularity of baking)! But, once you find a source just keep a can on hand. I found mine at Michaels in the baking section. I admit I am not sure what the Meringue Powder does, but I think it thickens the icing to make it easy to spread without pulling up the cake.
Here’s a few sugar cookies and a printed recipe for the royal icing follows below:
- 1 box of powdered sugar (16 ounces)
- ½ cup water
- 1 tsp. corn syrup
- 4 TBSP meringue powder
