Happy Weekend. We just saw Sully with Tom Hanks. It’s a feel good movie that puts this week’s mood in perspective. We were surprised how busy the theater was considering the movie has been out for a while. Tom Hanks never disappoints. This post makes a case for updated staircases.
A few years ago we replaced our wood spindles with iron and the transformation was …. well transformative
Now, my issue with my staircase is the stain on my yellow oak balusters and side trim. The thought of sanding and refinishing is daunting. I tried the gel after finding this technique on Pinterest, but I think it requires more sanding than it suggests on the label. I also don’t recommend trying it when you only have 15 minutes. Just sayin.’

Remodelholic shows off this beautiful, updated staircase.I love her balusters too!
Censational Girl had similar style staircase as our house. I just noticed she painted her side trim (that oak stained wood trim on the wall. Check out what she did to darken the stain. I shared her painting tools on my Instagram account.
I love Practically Spoiled’s staircase project because she has the same golden oak stained “sides.” And, she painted her sides white. It’s like an extended trim on the outside edge of the staircase. She motivated me!
