We all know the power of paint. But, painting involves a cluster of color choices. It’s a familiar stage of analysis-paralysis. I had just ordered a navy wool rug and knew the contrast would drive me crazy. I hopped on my favorite search engine (Pinterest) and found a few paint ideas where I didn’t have to pick a side of the color wheel. Turns out I was not the first person to figure a way to how to create a black and white hutch with paint.
I loved the idea of all white dishes and accessories in my black hutch, but do you know how many shades of white there are in the kitchenware section at HomeGoods? My family is adding a collective eye roll right about now (if they read my blog).
Black & White Hutch Makeover
Last week I shared the state of my black hutch here.
I had my go-to gallon of Mascarpone paint and counted the hours before my favorite husband left for his annual college guys’ ski trip.
I do not like an audience when I paint.
God bless the paint department at Home Depot. I could not pronounce or spell Mascarpone.
Here was my black hutch before the addition of white paint. Sadly, the hutch was in a post-holiday funk. Try to ignore the rug’s reflection in the mirror. In the photo below it’s hard to distinguish between what is in the hutch and what is a reflection.
The all-glass sliding doors and shelves made it all the more challenging with the decor.
Sidenote: I just noticed the tennis ball all under the hutch.
I started in the upper left corner of the hutch with an angled brush and roller. If the white paint looked terrible I planned on repainting the back panel with leftover black paint from this epic paint can spill.
It turns out the research on Pinterest was worth the time. I had made the right decision and was thrilled with the results of the black and white paint in a hutch! Whew! Yay! #whewyay
I circled back with my roller and painted the glass shelves. If I didn’t like the painted shelves I knew I could soak them in the kitchen sink and scrape off the paint. At this point, I think I will paint the upper glass shelves too. Thoughts?
Black and White Hutch | After
Ironically the only issue with the black and white hutch is my white accessories looked lost inside the hutch.
Stay tuned for the accessories portion of this project. Of course, now the rug is bugging me. It’s always something.
