Hi everyone- I am super excited to show off this DIY hardware for my basement window treatments. We used plumbing parts! Yep, $15.00 in parts from Home Depot. As you may know we are close to finishing our basement bath remodel. And, remodels of one space turn into updates to the rest of the basement. We just updated our basement family area HERE. Make sure and check out the before and after pics. Here’s a peek:
With new window treatments from IKEA I wanted industrial hardware but had a hard time sourcing what I was looking for online. And, then my {first} husband said he could make what I was looking for… in less than an hour. After I made him sign a note acknowledging his promise, we measured the windows and headed to the Depot!
The plumping pipes for these windows were premeasured/precut. The parts have fun names when you have to ask an associate for help. There is no way around the part, “nipple.” Seriously, the hardest part of this diy curtain rod is finding the plumbing parts on your own so you don’t have to ask where you find a flange and two nipples.
Here is a close up of the parts: I included an image so you can pin it and just show it to the associate:from left to right: flange, nipple, elbow (or the “t”- an “elbow” is in photo ) and conduit pipe.
Here’s the finished room. We have a long wall of windows in the family/movie room. I didn’t want a one long piece of piping to hand the window treatments, so we went with 2 smaller pipes and secured above each window:

Looks great! That’s so much cheaper than buying finials and rods for curtains! I’ve built a desk base of pipes but I spray painted mine oil rubbed bronze….Love the look of pipes! Thanks for linking up to Your Inspired Design! Hope to see you again tomorrow!!
