m&m portion sizes
This week I took a look at my M&M portion sizes and calories. It was an eye opening reality check. What precipitated my M&M portion sizs and calories audit was my doctor mentioned my glucose level was a little higher than she wanted it to be. I work out consistently and eat clean except for my chocolate habit. I recently completed a 1/2 marathon and had drastically reduced my miles. The problem was I failed to reduce my M&M intake! But the glucose number freaked me out and my doctor said my exercise was more than sufficient and she suggested I review the sugar in my diet. The timing of this review of my M&M portions was a challenge as we head into the season of comfort food and baked goods. But, I persevered and reviewed how many a “couple of M&M’s a “couple” times a day was in calories. This post is a reality check on my M&M portions sizes and calories. The results were eye opening.
When I am training for a 1/2 marathon I tend to indulge a little more because I am running more miles. But the reality is when the temperatures drop so do my miles, but not my sweet tooth! M&M’s (peanut because they have protein) are my go to chocolate treat. What started as 8 -10 peanut M&M’s started to morph to a larger size. Below is the recommended portion or serving size of M&M’s and will set you back 200+ calories. A tablespoon is the 200+ serving size on the package.
What I discovered is over the course of several weeks my tablespoon of M&M’s morphed into a 1/2 cup of M&M’s. My “just a handful” was actually a 1/2 cup of M&M’s at a time.

Uggh! I’m the same way this time of year! I can’t even keep peanut m & m’s in the house. I do measure to keep me on track! Great post and shocking too!
