did you know?
A colonoscopy for your interior walls is the best way to describe this service we found at Home Depot when we were contemplating our main floor remodel. You can read about my eight year dream for the wall on the right in the photo below. My {first} husband’s argument against the center wall tear down, that separates the living and family rooms, besides … the cost… was any unforeseen (literally) plumbing and electrical issues when the wall comes down.
I am not married to Chip Gaines! This could end the marriage…
I am reasonable and this argument was valid. But until our architect created this rendering of “mom’s dream” it was nothing close to reality.
Here’s the image our architect rendered for what I call “mom’s dream.” Cue some 80’s rock music…
Once my still {first} husband saw the living room/family room rendering, with a big screen television on the opposite side of this fireplace, he was (more) ready to move forward with this project. In hindsight, this rendering was way more effective than my entitled “Pins that scare my husband. ” All of a sudden he was on board and ready to get the walls scoped for any plumbing and electrical issues.
Earlier in the year we had consulted with Home Depot on a kitchen design and this is where we first heard of the “wall scope” service Home Depot provides. For $200.00 Home Depot contractor came to our home and made up to 5 small cuts in the drywall (sheet rock) to confirm the location of the plumbing and electrical systems. When it was confirmed and discussed he re-patched and retexture the walls. We had them scope two walls; the main wall separating the living and family room and this recent DIY wall project in the kitchen and dining room.
This was a new service Home Depot was rolling out in Colorado and I don’t know if it is available throughout the United States, but I would check with your local Home Depot. Call the kitchen department as it was the designers who first shared this program.
Here is the funny part of this wall scope. This wall colonoscopy was done in April. I didn’t bother to repaint because … well I was hoping this wall would be down by now… and why pay for paint for temporary surface area? But it still looks like this… and my teenage son asks us the end of July… “Whoa.. what happened here?” This wall is the opposite side of the living room wall above. It has looked exactly like this since April! I always say I could paint my front door pink and my boys would never notice!
