This is one of my favorite porch and patio projects in 2011. It was easier than it looks. I am re-posting it because we are getting ready to tackle our deck! Last summer started with a “quick” project to paint our front door. Here is the before. This photo does not show the weathered, splintered, and tired wood as a result of southwest facing front door in the Colorado dry air.
Here is the after photo. I love it. My neighbors loved it! And, the best part is it cost me a can of paint (Behr Beluga)!
It costs a can of paint …..until I started looking at the wood side railings that are on opposite sides of the front door. At first I suggested paint, but what I really wanted were iron spindles.
During the process. We had to cut out all of the wood spindles.
AFTER: Here is the after!
Supplies:18 rod iron balusters from Home Depot
“knuckles” (I alternated the pattern)
18 “shoes” at bottom (makes for a finished appearance)
2×6 boards to build out the lower railing for the balusters
Adhesive around top and bottom of each baluster.
Project Cost:
Balusters, knuckles and shoes: $100.00
Wood and Adhesive : $25.00
I already had the miter saw and metal blade. I love it!
This project was completed with ONLY 2 trips to Home Depot and 5 hours on a Saturday!
Just featured this great front porch at Cowgirl up at Cedar Hill Ranch, come take a look and grab a featured button if you like.
Looks great. Wonderful transformation. You have a great eye for design.
The front door and the new railing are just lovely. I love the color you chose.
Bright new look. Sometimes just a little money spent, makes a home look so much better.
On a blog hop. Following you on Connect. Will be Back.
Have a wonderful day.

It’s fabulous! What a change a can of paint can make.
