Cramped Puppy Crate …Puppy Sleeping Arrangements

It’s hard to believe our Bernese Mountain dog puppy is 7 months and 75 pounds. We are facing the issue of puppy sleeping arrangements at night because of her increasingly cramped crate quarters. Her crate is getting cramped, but her puppy ADHD makes me think she will keep us up all night if we cave and let her sleep with us.   It seems like a few short (okay a few long) days ago our  little Berner puppy  could fit on a single step.

And when  her favorite sleeping spot during the day and early evening  was  on the back patio under the patio chair just inches from our back door. Always within our sight:

And, when it was bedtime she would walk (willingly) to her bed and nestle in the corner with her favorites blankies her monkey:

And, then at the beginning of the new year, her favorite bean bag chair (from her “sister)  got a  little snug – kind of like my jeans.  chloe6months

And after celebrating her sixth month birthday she started protesting bedtime, with her weight as her strongest negotiation tool.  It is at the point where  I have to slide her across the floor to get her within 2 feet of her wicker crate. And, being in cramped quarters she is ready to get out by 4am which is just toooo early even for this early riser mom! So, how do you transition from crate training to more sleeping accommodation options?  She is crate trained and she is denied access to stairs at night?  Because she is a puppy I don’t see her sleeping through the night on our bed-just yet and I still really want to sleep, but a week of 4am wake up barks, I am losing all negotiations.   Where do your pets sleep when they outgrow the crate training stage? chloe5
