I am in love with this painting project in my garage of all places. I was intrigued by black doors and decided the garage entry door was a safe place to start since only family would enter the house through the garage. Painting the garage entry door black was an easy decision when our first impression of our home was this :
EWWWW…..
Here is the after… love it! Scroll down to bottom of post for details and suggestions! I think this garage entry door looks so much better. Ahhhh… this is how I want my family to enter our home. Loving the black door! If you are thinking about it.. go for it! You won’t regret it.. and if you do.. it’s only paint.
Here are my suggestions and details:
1. Prime all doors. You won’t regret this step. I just bought the 5 gallon primer at Home Depot.
2. I removed the door handle hardware, but not the hinges (mainly because it takes up too much time and since my hardware is oil rubbed bronze, any goofs are disguised by the bronze finish.
3. I used BEHR paint, BELUGA in semi-gloss finish. I love this color! And, at least 2 coats.
4. Here’s my biggest suggestion to painting doors: leave the paint can and brush handy because I am amazed at how many missed spots show up depending on the angle of my eyes!

Hi Laura,
I love your painted doors! I have always wanted to paint my pantry door a dramatic color, like cranberry, but never had the courage to do so.
(I do have a question for you; are your interior doors hollow core? If so, how did you attach your spice rack)?

Hi Val
Thanks for the comment! The pantry door is hollow. I purchased the spice rack from The Container Store and just screwed it into the door. It has not been an issue and the spice rack is filled with lots of glass jars and heavy items! Hope this helps! laura Did you see my earlier post about the interior side of my front door? It is stained and for this door I am thinking of painting it white? Would love to get your thoughts! Have a great Wednesday! laura

I love a black painted door! Our front door is black and desperately needs a fresh coat of paint. I’m featuring your black doors in this week’s Power of Paint Party.
