If a pantry is any indication of one’s mental health: I am headed for a 72 hour psych hold! Here was the current state of my pantry in January :
BEFORE:
A VIEW FROM THE FLOOR…
DURING: What was I thinking with this color? Not even my dogs liked this color!
Here was my inspiration:

Building it Back Up:
Full disclosure here: My {first} husband was the project manager on this project. Actually, he was the contractor and I was the project manager. And, with our entire pantry contents in the dining room, we were on a tight deadline. The first decision was to add a cabinet and granite top to act as the “junk drawer.” Our entire kitchen counter morphs into a junk counter by Friday. Every. Single. Friday! We found a perfect size cabinet with 2 drawers at IKEA. Check it out here:
We bought the cabinet topless so we could add granite remnant. My {first} husband made a template to take to granite guy to cut it to size!
Here’s the 2 drawer IKEA cabinet with a dark slate granite remnant:
After pricing out shelves at Container Store and Ikea, we decided to go with a combo of adjustable shelves and static shelves. We went with Melamine shelving from Home Depot for both the adjustable and static shelves. Melamine Shelves found here : My biggest issue was making sure I could adjust shelves as needs or seasons change. We then went to work on the built in shelves above the cabinet.
We used the same Melamine shelving but didn’t need the predrilled sides to accommodate adjustable shelves. The trickest part was the awkward shaped shelves for the corner. But, this was valuable space and I wanted it for my appliances. With the shelves as deep as 24″, each shelf can accommodate multiple appliances, large serving pieces and bags of chips! And, I needed space for this cute Halloween Dessert Tiered Rack from Crate and Barrel. So really, C&B is the reason for this entire pantry project:

I never think about all of my wasted corner space! This is a great idea!

The corner shelf makes great use of the corner space. I think I will steel that idea sometime in the future. I have a closet under the stair way that I would love to get better use of. The problem being that the access to the only storage area in the house is under the stairs behind the closet.

We have a similar storage in our basement. It’s such a headache to get there! Thanks Candy! laura
