The above image is the after….. the rest of this post is the process to get to the after. It’s the biggest project my {first} husband and I have done. It involved a demo day, plumbing and electrical code requirements, drywall, textured walls(I think textured walls are a regional thing) and figuring out how to build and drywall an arch. Just another rainy day in Colorado.
I credit the weather for this early morning decision to take out the shared wall between our kitchen and dinining room. This is what happened in Colorado when we got two back to back weekends with snow in April! The snow and dreary skies threw us off our game. When rugby and lacrosse games got cancelled we were handed an unexpected gift of time. And we turned our energy to the shared wall that separates the dining room and kitchen. In full disclosure we met with an architect in March to discuss two walls we considered tearing down. This shared kitchen wall was not initially on the list to tear down. During that meeting with our architect we discussed how the removal of this shared wall would bring more natural light into our north and west facing kitchen. And the idea to tear down the wall was planted. The biggest surprise; my {first} husband and I were on the exact same page, paragraph and sentence! Here is the wall on the chopping block. Since everyone in our family was obsessed with “But where will the microwave go?” I will share suggestions from our architect later and address the 6th family member’s temporary relocation. For now, let the pictures share how the wall came tumbling down.
So many details to share. Stay tuned for next steps and how we created a new arch for under $100.00.
