I am obsessed with this new dramedy This is Us! I gave my readers a heads up of a few shows on my fall DVR and This is Us was at the top of the list. After I watched Episode #1 I sent a group text to friends and family shouting in ALL CAPS they must watch this show!
I watched the first episode 3 1/2 times. After the ending of Episode #1 (no spoilers) I had to re-watch it. Then while out with a few friends it turns out I missed a few other details… so I re-watched it a third time. The extra 1/2 was the rewinding I did to catch a laugh out loud or tear jerking comment.
The cast includes so many familiar faces and a few new ones for me (and new favorites too).
The series is directed by Ken Olin … how many of you remember Thirty Something? He was the director of another favorite, Brothers & Sisters. This is Us is the best part of families and siblings.
The storylines are familiar to the viewer; the baggage we carry around from our childhoods and the built in support systems with our siblings. It is about the bonds we have with our siblings, good and not so good, cheering us on from the sidelines. It’s about even after a long absence; our family members, the ones that matter, will be there for us.
Maybe not our entire family; not all families are like the ones on the Hallmark Channel. But most of us are lucky enough to have that one family member that is always there.
And, the surprises and unexpected developments that transpire over the years in flashback moments make us want more. I could binge watch the existing two episodes between now and Tuesday. Except I want to save the episodes for a snowy Sunday afternoon or a lazy Saturday morning.
For me, This is Us is about All of Us!
And, if this isn’t enough, the trailer below includes Jason Mraz singing, I Won’t Give Up. And, for those that remember Milo from Gilmore Girls… warning: butt shots of Milo Ventimiglia in the trailer below.
Who is watching?
P.S. Google “This is Us” the television show or you will find One Direction’s song by the same title….

I’m loving This Is Us too! I’ve watched both episodes twice and the after shows on the NBC app. I noticed Ken Olin directing and I do remember 30something! One of my favorite shows from the 80’s!! I’ve got the hubs and oldest daughter watching now too.
