This is the photo from my favorite site for better homes. It’s also the image that gave me the idea for painted glass. Who knew glass could be painted? It never occurred to me until I saw the above image. So when I had mixed results from my first try at chalk paint HERE I remembered this image. After my sister and I painted a cherry finished hutch I was left with white paint (quite the contrast from cherry stain) and lots of shiny glass. Glass doors, glass shelves and the back of the hutch was a sheet of glass. It was too much glass and it made the hutch feel too pretty for the room. My goal was to create a less formal hutch.
On a whim I painted the glass behind the shelves in my china hutch. I decided if I hated it I could take a scraper and peel the paint. I immediately loved the look and the paint decreased the impact of the glass doors and shelves. The change was dramatic. This is what painted glass looks like…
I used a primer/white paint (not the chalk paint) to paint the back of the china hutch. I used a foam roller to spread the paint and it was so easy. This is the finished painted glass. I love it. My family never noticed the glass was painted. Behind the ceramic pumpkin and plates is painted glass. The paint warmed up the hutch and toned down the glass, making it less formal and more cozy for the dining room. I love it!!!!
