Hi all- I found this sushi cake roll recipe in Family Fun magazine in 2008. Yes, it took me seven years to make this recipe! And, I must admit it is a very messy project! However, I think this would be a great activity for a kid’s sleepover- what could go wrong with kids, frosting and 300 pieces of gummy products! Or, maybe a mom’s happy hour sushi party- frosting and wine- what could possibly go wrong!
I purchased premade pound cake and used my baking shot glass (from Crate & Barrel). I don’t usually eat pound cake, but with all the leftover edges I found myself sneaking too many scraps!!!!
I found the candies and fruit roll ups at Target (cheaper than the grocery store), frosting acted as the glue and coconut added to the taste!
I have to admit this was a lot of work and as you can see from the photos, the sushi rolls are not Pinterest- worthy! It was messy. But, I have held onto this recipe for 6 years and I have no regrets that I finally made it! ! And, my boys were curious about them and said they tasted great! Yay! Getting a smile from them is worth the mess and cleanup!

I miss Family Fun! These are adorable. I made Rice Krispies sushi and I think it was from their magazine too!

I love this idea. My husband and I make our own real sushi and this would be a fun dessert for a sushi dinner. Thanks for sharing.
